Technical Trainer Rail Track Infrastructure

This role is situated in a highly visible State Government Department that employs thousands of staff with a wide range of responsibilities and skill sets in order to ensure that it operates effectively and efficiently.

Reporting through to the Lead Trainer, the primary purpose of this role is to deliver theory and practical hands on training to front line technical staff and engineers involved in Rail Track Infrastructure.

This will include the introduction of 3 new programs; Basic Rail Infrastructure Program (Aligned with Cert II), Advanced Rail Infrastructure Program (Aligned with Cert III) and a Continuation Skills Program. You will be delivering these programs in a new hands-on practical delivery model.

Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Delivery of training material in a class room environment and in in-field practical hands on environment, following curriculums and training guidelines and utilising SME knowledge of discipline.
  • Carry out assessments and evaluation of learning to ensure that business group staff have developed necessary competencies.
  • Maintain training and assessment documentation, in accordance with appropriate records management systems and procedures and legislative requirements, to support accreditation.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of training materials and manuals, ensuring compliance with endorsed Organisational and industry standards as well as relevant policies, procedures, legislation and regulations.
  • Engage with relevant business stakeholders to assist in supporting learning and competency management in the operations.

All candidates must be able to address the following selection criteria.

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant Track, Civil, Rail Infrastructure competencies (Cert II, III) and/or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
  • Considerable experience in Rail Track Construction and/or Maintenance (Gain on Sydney Trains/ Railcorp Network is highly desirable)
  • Experience in a safety critical industry and an understanding of Rail Safety
  • Experience in the delivery of vocational education training (VET) and understanding of competency based training and assessment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with good organisational and time management skills
